Havenât Coached OLine since 2016? You Need This
Bentley is not just a guru, heâs a practitioner. The new-school OLine (No more kick-slide; now itâs âDrive-Catchâ) principals were confusing to me at first. Basically, do you want your lineman to push or pull? This book explains the difference in technique and leverage and includes easy-to-understand diagrams. If youâve coached Power-I or Wing T and youâre moving to more of a spread-zone type offense, this book is mandatory. Iâd still recommend it if youâre a gap-scheme guy, too. Bentley converted me from my âface, hands, flat-back, short-choppy steps upbringing to dominating D Lineman from a powerful base.

Suprisingly intuitive
Intriguing concepts that affirm some long held beliefs and coaching techniques while directly challenging others. The emphasis and methods for teaching lineman footwork and lines of force are something I will incorporate into my coaching toolbox.Regarding the “player” illustrations, an “A” for effort but many of them are indistinguishable from each other while attempting to illustrate a different movement. The author’s You Tube videos are fantastic however and flesh out the book’s concepts well.

The new standard for football teaching references!
Building the Block is the most in-depth approach to the fundamentals of football that many have glossed over. It challenges the way techniques have been coached for years, but he backs everything with references from everything science, physics, biomechanics, and anatomy. For me, what I thought I knew about the most basic techniques was all wrong. And every time I would try to refute his teachings, he references scientific research. This should be a requirement for all offensive coaches if we want to improve this game.

Time to start over!
I coached OK for 25 years before attending LeCharles’ first coaching clinic in 2016. I had to chuck probably 80% of what i knew and start over. It has been worth it in results and in simplifying my teaching progressions. I highly recommend Building the Block.

This book is an ABSOLUTE must have for all Offensive Line coaches. The foundational principles outlined in this book will be the norm in the next 10-15 years, so if you want to be ahead of the curve, do yourself a favor and buy this book. There are many gimmicks and fads in the football world, but this is here to stay.

Amazingly in depth book for Offensive Lineman. I bought it to help my 11 year old Godson who just started playing football this year. It had helped tremendously.Highly recommend this book!
