Creative, Durable, and Totally Adorable!
These Blockables are an instant hit in our house! My toddler dove right in and hasnât stopped building since. The pieces are chunky enough for little hands to grasp easily, and the snap-together connectors are super satisfying (and sturdy!). I love watching my kid create animals from the instructionsâthen toss the rules out the window and make âa windmill-porcupine with goat legs.â Imagination overload in the best way.We got the Woodland Friends and Farm Friends bundle, which is the perfect combo of classic animals and whimsical pieces. The felt add-ons are a cute touch, and everything stores neatly in the box (major parent win!). Theyâve also held up great to enthusiastic play and even a few tumbles off the table. As a mom, I really appreciate that these toys help with fine motor skills, creative thinking, and confidence building. And as someone who steps on way too many tiny plastic bricksâthese wooden pieces are a welcome change.Highly recommend for toddlers and preschoolers who love building, animals, or just making silly stuff come to life!

Limited Playability Unless Buying Multiple Sets
This Melissa & Doug Blockables⢠Farm and Woodland 2-Pack is a nice idea. Having two of these is the bare minimum in my opinion. Blockables are meant to be an interchangeable building toy. However, there are very few pieces in any one box. Unlike Lego, or even a basic set of wooden blocks, there’s only so much you can do with like 7 – 10 pieces. The quality is top notch. The blocks are cut well. The painting is accurate. The plastic parts seem durable enough. I would recommend this set if you are planning to buy more. However, for a one-off purchase I would suggest comparing this toy to other building systems.

My child has enjoyed these. They are higher quality than most.

Cute & Fun
These are fun, and the kids that I worked with really liked playing with these. These are easy to manipulate; they were well sanded and smooth to the touch. The color and detail of these was as expected from listing photos. The kids that I worked with loved that they could mix and match these to create their own unique critters as well as ones they were familiar with.

Fun Animal Building Block Set
I am a huge fan of Melissa and Doug toys because they’re made of safe, high-quality materials. This is a really cute barnyard set. While I did quickly reference the directions, it’s pretty intuitive and I also love that you can mix and match the various blocks and accessories and use your imagination. I love that it’s a decent-sized set and you can make a variety of animals and accessories (duck, raccoon, bear, fox, porcupine, windmill, and so on).As others have mentioned, it’s aimed for ages 2+; my nephew (age 2.5) loved it and began building the blocks immediately by mixing- and matching-, but I don’t think he necessarily knew to build a specific animal as prescribed (which is fine, I think it’s great to use the imagination). In full transparency, this is not my favorite Melissa and Doug toy of all time, but I do think it’s a great toy that encourages motor skills and building.

Underwhelming for Melissa & Doug
Cute in theory, but overall this is a miss in my opinion. The connecting points are little plastic discs that slip into the holes. It allows you to flip the blocks any direction, but the plastic discs are also way too easy to lose. I donât know about anyone elseâs toddler, but mine (22 months) is irresponsible with small toys. I also wish that there were more accessory pieces, like the duck feet, bull horns, and hedgehog (?) frill. I think those cute felt pieces make the mix-and-match aspect more appealing than the rather plain blocks.

Interesting new concept by Melissa and Doug, but not as accessible or engaging as their usual fare
This is an interesting twist on wooden blocks by Melissa and Doug. Instead of simply stacking blocks as is done traditionally, they put holes in the blocks, into which you can place plastic connectors. I’m guessing they were looking to solve the problem with traditional blocks of falling apart easily. On a positive note, the wooden blocks are made with Melissa and Doug’s usual quality standards. The blocks are solid wood, not plastic. They’re painted with non-toxic paint with bright colors. There are interactive pieces like a fan which is made of felt, so no danger there. And the holes are drilled smoothly, although a few do have some rough edges. One thing you should be aware of with the holes; they’re about 5/8″ in diameter. Kids with smaller hands should be fine, but if there are older kids in the house you’ll want to watch them carefully so they don’t get their fingers stuck (and it probably goes without saying that most kids won’t be able to shake the temptation to try it). While testing it I got my pinky stuck; luckily I was able to slowly pry it off, but kids may be a little less patient.I’m not too crazy about the concept of the plastic connector pieces. I’m guessing they’re going for something like Tinker Toys or Legos as far as using the connectors to build models that stay in place. And while they give suggestions in their manual, your child can make their own creations using any combination of the blocks (there are 32 pieces across two sets). While it sounds great on paper, the plastic connectors are going to get lost easily, and they require a bit of motor skills that I think most preschoolers won’t have. I think some kind of solution with velcro or magnets may have worked better.I’ll give it a “very good” rating based on the quality of the pieces alone, where Melissa and Doug rarely disappoint. But I think this ultimately lacks replay value, and I believe an old fashioned collection of wooden blocks will still be much more engaging and fun.
