Built with premium materials by the authority in camping comfort, the Therm-a-Rest BaseCamp Self-Inflating Foam Camping Pad offers supreme comfort in the frontcountry. The 2-inch sleeping pad is made of solid thermal foam to provide stability and warmth during nights under the stars. With a 6 R-value, the BaseCamp can handle camps during any season or condition (R-value measures the material’s ability to insulate; the higher the R-value, the warmer the sleeping pad). The 2-inch thick pad will expand on its own with an open valve until topping off with a few breaths. The BaseCamp sleeping pad also includes a stuff sack to protect the pad when it’s packed down. Like all Therm-a-Rest pads, the BaseCamp is made in market to ensure quality and minimize environmental impact. Equipped with the WingLock Valve which is able to inflate a pad three times faster than a standard valve thanks to a larger barrel and optional one-way inflation. Made in the USA. Manufacturer’s limited lifetime warranty.
Camping pad that offers supreme frontcountry luxury and self-inflating convenience for any camping trip

For best performance, inflate your self-inflating pad with air by breath or included pump sack and leave the mattress fully inflated for 2-4 hours before your first use

Customers say
Customers find the air mattress comfortable, with one mentioning it’s like sleeping on clouds, and appreciate its durability, with one noting it holds up well in Colorado winter camping. The mattress inflates easily, works well, and retains air effectively. While customers like its quality and functionality, opinions about weight are mixed, with some finding it bulky and others wishing it was lighter. The thickness receives mixed feedback, with several customers noting it’s not thick enough.

Great dependable product.
Wow! Thermarest. What can I say. We used these when I worked for the US Forest Service in Alaska. Theyâre the only inflatables we used while bivouacs in remote wilderness work sites. And for me, this product is worth its weight in gold. Never leaks for me. I highly recommend this.

Exceptional Thermarest Quality
I had one of the very first self-inflating Thermarest pads back in the 70âs, and this new one is no exception to their outstanding quality and design. My original never leaked air or deflated unexpectedly or had structural issues the whole time I backpacked with it. Iâm expecting the same great quality with this new purchase, but for car camping (we are much older now!). I was willing to spend the extra $$ on Thermarest brand because I know I can count on their quality. I love the simple improvements to the valve, the great color, and the feel of the outside fabric is just as nice as I remembered. We are looking forward to more great adventures ahead in comfort with these air mattresses (we ordered two the exact same).

Longtime Thermarest owner needing a larger one for âglampingâ. See pros & cons below.
Pic from left to right: Standard Thermarest – Thermarest XL Basecamp – Invoker 3â modelLongtime Thermarest owner for hard camping. Now that I âglampâ more than camp, I wanted âtoppersâ for the RV bed cushions in my Class B Xplorer motor home. The idea was to have an adjustable firmness topper that would store easily. I intend to store them deflated under the existing cushions. I have a full 77â length in the rear of my wide body Class B. Set up as twin beds in rear, right and left, 30â W each bed with 24â aisle between. Just my setup. I also like the idea of having my old standard Thermarest in case someone wants to sleep on the floor. The Thermarest XL fit the space perfectly. My old âstandardâ a bit too small. This comparison is between the Thermarest XL Basecamp and the Invoker 3â model. Both are longer and a bit wider than my âstandardâ Thermarest I have owned for years. I bought both the Thermarest XL & a 3â Invoker for this comparison & review.Pros & Cons: The INVOKER is 1â thicker and has a softer surface. It is more comfortable and less likely my hip bone will touch bottom side laying, if I let air out to make softer. Not really an issue in my use since they will be over other very firm cushions. The 3â Invoker is a little less than 28â wide, 2â shorter than the Thermarest XL, but love the comfort of the extra inch thick over the Thermarest. But the Thermorest XL is wider so fits better in my space. The Invoker softer surface will likely hold a fitted camp sheet a little better than the slipperier Thermarest. Naturally the thicker Invoker does not roll up as small in diameter as the thinner Thermarest. But the Thermarest XL is longer. My Thermo standard size is perfect for camping and on a pack since itâs smaller. Both inflate on their own easily in 5-10 minutes. Both have good 2 way air valves. Both you can blow inflate if you wish to make them firmer. IMHO Thermarest valve is better positioned off the surface so not to be in the way of rolling up. The Invoker valve is perfectly ok positioned on the surface but deep in the corner. However the Thermarest valve is better engineered, positioned & seems more durable. The the only reason Iâm not going 5 stars is itâs just not quite thick enough w/o blowing it up a little, and that makes it too firm for me. (Iâm such a whiner). I wish there was 4 1/2 star pick.Overall you wonât be disappointed with the Thermarest XL. I intended to pick the best and return the other, but Iâm keeping both!

Great mat
Use this for car camping. Works great for this 300lb 6’1″ dude. Also great to keep in car for emergencies.

Very Confortable
Tried all kinds of sleeping mattresses for tent and SUV camping. This is the best I’ve ever experienced. Very comfortable even side sleeping. Pricey but comfortable and sleeping well is more important.

Skip the air mattresses and go straight to this!
Basecamp XLUpdate… I have had this for a year now, and I’ve used it on three camping trips and twice as a take-along “guest bed” when visiting relatives. I still love it, and it’s holding up well…As a “car camping” tent glamper, I have gone through three air mattresses that eventually sprung leaks. I should have gone straight to the Therm-a-rest n the first place. Also, since even the “regular” size is so big it is only for car camping, I suggest you go ahead and get the X-Large size. Its 30″ width is comfortable for wiggly sleepers. I bring along a twin size mattress cover and sheet sheet, make up the mattress as a “bed,” and put the mattress on top of my Ozark Trail zipper cot. However, I have used the mattress without the cot, and that is comfortable also. The only drawback is that the mattress should be stored in an inflated state. I keep mine behind an upright dresser. Also fits under a bed.

I bought this for my daughter for Christmas. She is so happy with it. There was a slight billing issue but it was sorted out immediately. Super happy with this company and would 100% buy something from them again.

Apparently this has an R-rating of 6. If it does, then I am Elvis Presley. I recently took my son camping in the Derbyshire peaks in November. He had this mat, which was in a tent which was on a ground sheet. He was in thermal base layer, some joggers and a fleece, and inside a 4 season bag. It was a mild night for November, and only got down to 6°C. Well inside the the range for this type of mat.He said he could feel the cold through the mat and was shivering for much of the night. I was on an Exped Downmat with a 8 R-rating. So we swapped for the second night. He was right, this mat does very little to protect you from the cold ground. I can confirm that this mat is NOT suitable for mild British winters. It was fine during the summer, but is hopeless for all year around like Therm-a-rest claim. Very disappointed considering the cost. Getting him an Exped mat.
