If you’re tired of getting soaked on your camping trips or always find yourself struggling with the zippers on your tent, switch to an ALPS Mountaineering tent that you can rely on. The Taurus is a simple 2-pole freestanding dome tent that is enhanced with 2 doors and 2 vestibules (one over each door) with #8 zippers to make entering and exiting the tent hassle free. The two doors each have a mesh window, which is great for ventilation… and when it’s time to put on the fly, you won’t have to worry about losing your fresh air. Get this tent!!!!!
I went on a cross country camping trip with a buddy from nov 2020-feb 2021 from PA to Cali and back. This tent was more than I could ask for! We went in a 99 corolla so saving space was a must! This tent is so compact that Iâm going to be able to pack it on my motorcycle! The full rain fly helped keep us warm when nights got down to 36°. We also had the proper sleeping bags and clothes. The only time water got in was the first night because we didnât tied the sides of the two fly away from the tent and when the first melted in the morning it came through. Never happened again once we tied all four walls away from the tent. One year from my cot which was my fault. I was on a big rock and didnât realize. We had 25+ mph winds in Texas and although the wind made the sides cave in a little, nothing budged and the poles stayed attached with no worries. The top screens and side screens help a lot when it comes to breath condensation and even with them open the rain fly was enough to keep us warm. Rain proof (when tied properly), warm and wind proof. How can you not get this?? Itâs more of a 2 person tent with enough room in the middle for gear or walking. Could fit 3 people but will be sleeping elbow to elbow. It is a lot bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. Like the 90s show âout of the boxâ haha. If I could buy this tent twice, I would but it seems like itâs going to last me a long while. Oh and easy set up too! Once person can do it in 10 mins.

Nice bang for the buck.
I like this tried and true design of two cross membered poles, as well as clips that attach to the poles without using pole shutes. Set up was quick and easy, and the sewing was excellent. The tent walls had no sags or creases. I was looking for a tent that did not compromise on the rainfly. This rainfly covered the whole tent all the way to the ground. The tent floor had the bathtub design, but I was still concerned about moisture wicking through the floor. After setting it up, I waterproof the floor both inside and out, and waterproof the fly inside and out as well. The poles are very sturdy fiberglass which was a plus for me. I use a tarp over all my tents and I can tell that The roof apex can handle pressure from a tarp stretched out from the back side to create an awning to The front. The advertising says that this is a 4 person tent, and that is certainly not true. Three adults with no other equipment inside would be comfortable. Two adults and two small children could also be doable. This tent will definitely last you many camping seasons of it’s well taken care of.

Good protection at a good price
First, the good.. Very easy to assemble and pretty sturdy after you get it up, especially once staked out. Had a storm roll through the first night I used it and the rainfly worked well. It wasn’t an absolute deluge but it was storming enough to wake me up and lasted several hours. No leaks at all. Very spacious with plenty of room for gear (thanks for the included gear loft by the way). Did a decent job of retaining warmth during the night, staying maybe 5 or more degrees warmer than the outside and did an excellent job at keeping the wind out. Keep in mind I was using this solo. Now for the downsides. This tent is on the heavy side which was fine for me since I was car camping but I wouldn’t want to think about backpacking with this. Not a deal breaker by any means but worth mentioning. Likewise, there was a pretty large amount of condensation in the morning but it was on the inside of the fly, not the tent, so again not really a deal breaker. However, it does tie in to my next point. Airflow in this tent is pretty questionable if you have the fly on, even if its opened up all the way. There was one point during a down day where I tried to stretch out and read for a bit but had to leave the tent because it was just too warm (keep in mind it was maybe 70 outside, not hot by any stretch of the imagination).Overall, for the price I would still very much recommend this tent. The downsides, in my opinion, aren’t that significant and I’m still very happy with my purchase.

Good for the price
It is light and easy to set, good choice when use in not extreme weather and when travel by car.

Fantastic tent
Fantastic tent. Bought this in my early twenties and itâs still in great shape. It can get hot during the day in Utah, but thatâs the beauty of two windows/doors that are large enough to let in cooler air or a breeze. I keep the fly doors pinned back, but in heavy rain and wind, they keep everything nice and dry. The tent is fairly light, less than ten pounds. Easy to set up and put away – I can do this on my own with no help. Thereâs plenty of space, but Iâd say it fit two adults and a large dog just fine. Would highly recommend!

Hoped for higher quality
We have loved this brand for scouting adventures in the past- purchased this one in August and within 3 months, it already had a hole in the floor. Durability is lacking. Wouldnât put my money into this brand again anytime soon.
