Great Insulation Layer
On its own, this pad is what it is, a foam pad with the usual amount of comfort, which for me, is not enough if I want to sleep. Where this pad has value, is as an accompanying insulating layer to another pad in cold conditions. Now, carry two pads while backpacking is not ideal, so you’ll likely upgrade to a single high R-value pad, but it will cost you. For those car camping or not hiking far to a campsite, you can use the dual pad to increase your sleep systems R-value. The reflective layer is helpful in this regard as is the closed-cell foam. And, this pad is more durable than my other Amazon-purchased-random-brand foam pad.

Quiet and warm. Good size. Great for car camping to supplement an inflatable.
The TIYURENER Closed Cell Foam Sleeping Pad is a fine pad that offers some good features in comparison to other sleeping pads. I am an avid backpacker and car camper during the warmer months and shoulder seasons, and I usually sleep on an inflatable pad for the comfort they provide. However, the inflatable I use does not provide adequate insulation from a cold ground that I sometimes encounter when Fall temperatures start to dip. I got the Tiyurener to supplement my inflatable pad when car camping. The Tiyurener, which folds up accordion style into fourteen sections, is true to its advertised unfolded dimensions of 22â by 72â, giving the average sleeper room for a little tossing around at night. It weighs in at just under 14oz (about one ounce per section), not including a strap or rubber band that I recommend to keep it from unfolding when youâre trying to pack it. The surface is textured so it wonât slip out from underneath your sleeping bag in the middle of the night.Although the waffle texture provides a degree of comfort above a traditional flat, closed cell foam pad, it canât compete with the comfort of an inflatable. This may not matter to some (letâs say younger) backpackers or, as I use it, to car campers who can afford the weight of both types of pads. But for me, the reduced comfort is a deal breaker for backpacking trips on which I endeavor to go as light and comfortable as possible. On the other hand, inflatable sleeping pads are known for making noise as the sleeper tosses on it in the middle of the night. The Tiyurener doe not suffer from that same fate and neither will your camping companions.Although I did not test it on a cold surface (it got down to abut 34 degrees on my most recent camping trip), it appears plenty thick enough to keep the sleeper protected from small irregularities in the ground (think small rocks or pine cones) and from moderately cold ground, even with some snow on it (note: Iâm a relatively warm sleeper). I was really pleased that it did not move around as I tossed and turned at night, which is a problem with the slicker surface of the inflatable I usually use.I really like this Tiyurener sleeping pad for specific uses. It is ideal for car camping trips where I can use it to supplement the inflatable mattress pad I usually use. It offers insulation that my inflatable doesnât have and it is much quieter than most inflatables. That it doesnât slip around at night as I toss and turn is a big plus and easily worth the cost for that feature alone. For backpacking, on the other hand, it is about four times the size of my inflatable when both are packed up and it doesnât offer the same degree of comfort as an inflatable. My conclusionâ¦.Iâll be plenty happy to bring it on my car camping trip, but for backpacking it will probably get left at home.

Will do well for camping
Tl;Dr.: this pad will work great for camping. It might work for backpacking.######################### Design/Build Quality########################It has a kind of glossy finish to it, which should resist dirt and other stains, but it likely will make it a bit slippery when you sleep on it. I haven’t taken it camping yet, however I did spend a couple of hours sitting on it playing video games and my but was nice and comfortable. The advantage to this stile of pad vs an inflatable pad is you can fold it over to increase the thickness for sitting (which I did). I will likely use this tandem with an inflatable pad, but it might work as is.It comes with two elastic straps to hold it closed, but that’s it. That can be a good thing or bad thing, depending on your view. It keeps the weight down, but you’ll have to find another way to secure it to a backpack. In total (with the straps) mine weight just over 400 grams (15oz).######################### Conclusion########################I’ll definitely be using for car camping. It might work for backpacking. I don’t have any data on durability, but it feels like it should be fine.

Really effective when paired with an inexpensive inflatable sleeping pad
I’ll use this for car/tent camping, so carrying some extra stuff isn’t a big deal.I have a couple self-inflate sleeping pads, but I only think about taking them when I know the temps will start to approach freezing, or colder. For anything above that I find a simple inflatable pad paired with a closed cell pad, like this one, is sufficient; both in terms of comfort and temperature. The stated dimensions of this pad are accurate. So when used with most of my inflatable pads (25″ width), this 22″ wide doesn’t quite provide full-width coverage, but it still does a good job.The description does not say that the claimed R-value of 2.0 was actually tested in accordance with ASTM. Most closed cell pads when ASTM tested are closer to an R-value of 1.5. So that may be a more reasonable value to expect. This type of pad doesn’t suit all situations, but it can work well for so many (especially paired with a simple inflatable pad), I think everyone who sleeps in a tent should have one.
