Excellent emergency bags – best I’ve ever used
Actual paying customer here. I love these bags. I already had two before this 5 pack became available.Over the last 30 years I’ve spent countless hours teaching backcountry survival. Having a mylar emergency blanket, tent, or bivvy can mean the difference between life and death. The trouble with plain mylar is that it is so fragile. One small tear and things are done. I had an emergency mylar tent go from protecting me to silver confetti in a matter of a few minutes when a windstorm whipped up debris and tore it to shreds. This Sierra Madre bag takes the awesome insulating powers of mylar and adds a protective plastic covering. This greatly increases the durability. I’d trust my life to it. It also greatly reduces the noise. I’d need to be pretty tired to get decent sleep in a normal mylar bivvy or tent (experience here).I now keep two of these in my cars, on in each of my bug out bags, and with my normal camping gear. Living in the high desert, you never know what kind of weather may come your way.At $10 each, this is an incredibly cheap insurance policy for you and your family.

Severe weather ready and moreâ¦
I had a couple of these pre-hurricane Milton but it wasnât until after I realised how truly helpful these would be to a lot of folks. Thankfully I havnt had to use one but I did take the liberty to pull one out and try it, itâs 7ft long and easy for me to pull up over and hunker down if needed. I have them in my hurricane prep box (one each for family), a couple to hand out if needed and use it as part of my rescue gear kayaking. Just in case someone goes in and gets too cold, this could help warm them back up. Iâm also working to buy more for our local homeless outreach for severe weather responses too. I hope we donât need them but this is a fire extinguisher of prep gear!

Yes, you should have something like this in your pack, and reasons this may be the one.
This looks like a better addition to my emergency kit that I take on every hiking trip. The kit currently includes a mylar blanket that absolutely is not reusable, but isn’t quite as heavy as I remembered.Yes, things like this are good to have! I have deployed two emergency mylar blankets in the past. They were not life threatening situations, but sometimes it is worth the cost of replacement to go ahead and use the thing. Even better if it is reusable and there won’t be a cost of replacement. The first came out when I decided I needed a roof more than a floor to go with my bivy. The ground cover (and some emergency cord) became my roof and the emergency blanket became my floor. It worked okay for a week of rainy nights. The second time was when I was expecting dry and maybe freezing temperatures and got 24F and a bunch of snow on not one, but two nights out of four. I pulled the emergency blanket over the top and it held up to the two nights. It is arguable that that didn’t become life threatening because I was willing to deploy the blanket. Fortunately there was no wind and it stayed in place with a few little rocks, but a bag like this product would have been better in that situation.Deploying those other blankets is difficult, it must be said, especially after knocking about in the pack for a couple years. It took great care to get them unrolled without tearing. The layers were sticking together and I just had to settle in and take the time to do it. Part of the problem is just that they are so very brittle. As it comes out of the packaging, this one is a lot easier to open up so you can open it quickly when minutes count. What it will be like after riding around in a pack for 2000 miles remains to be seen.Is this reusable? It is certainly tougher, which counts even on a single use. It is wind and water proof, but only if there aren’t holes developing! Holes and tears cause problems and you will have some with the lighter blankets. However, I doubt this will be in good shape to trust for a second emergency after getting used the first time. It will stay around you since it is a bag, not just a blanket, and that counts for something too. If a blanket is needed, it can be converted by cutting. You have more confidence and more options with this product. There is a weight penalty for this better emergency solution. I get 137g (4.8oz) with the storage bag, more than the 4.2oz claimed in one spot or 4.6oz in another more visible spot. My scale reliably measures nickels as 5g each, so I’m confident of the accuracy. Removing the storage bag only saves 8g and leaves the emergency bag vulnerable. The current emergency blanket is only 54g (1.9oz), but it does have drawbacks. There are definitely a few hikes where I’d rather have the heavier one.

Another Sierra Madre must-have camping item!
Arrived as expected. Great size and weight. I was even able to reroll and fit it back into the small bag after checking it out. I previously purchased a couple Puffles from Sierra Madre and they are one of my favorite must-have camping items. Iâm happy to add another Sierra Madre quality item to my packing list!

Be prepared for cold situations!
Arrived quickly. Large size emergency bag to stay warm in an emergency.Going to put 2 in each car and give some as gifts. They do not take up much room and will save you in an emergency when it is cold in your car or other situation where you need to stay warm.

The real Sierra Madre is top notch and cannot be mimicked
This company, the real Sierra Madre, is one of my favorite finds in the last few years. Their recommendations and products are top notch. Their customer service is delightful. I have not been disappointed in any of the investments I have made with their products – this one included.

Works great but massively difficult to repack
I got this in anticipation for hurricane evacuation, I wanted some bedding that was easier and smaller to pack than a sleeping bag.I opened it up to use it to see how well it would work and it does work really well for a sleeping bag replacement. But I have no idea how the heck I’m going to be able to get it folded back up to put into the carry bag.Based on previous evacuation experience were I to use this I would likely use it to the point that the original folds are no longer visible and I have no idea how I would repack this thing into its original bag.As I’m typing this out loud I’m thinking I could probably just fold it up like a sheet and put it away that way.

Compact and as advertised
Been looking to get these for a while. Hopefully won’t need them, but better to have them and not need them than need them and not have them. They come nicely packaged and compact. Will fit in any glove compartment. Put some in both cars.
