I love this phone holder
I was looking at a number of phone holders, most of which were flexible arms that would let me put my phone in any position. While that was appealing, my phone (like most new phones) is heavy and I didn’t trust that the phone holder would maintain its position for an hour or more. This phone holder looked like it could handle it. And it does! You do give up a little bit of flexibility because this can’t go to any position I want, but with a little work I can get it to work in almost any situation. I never feel like it’s going to drop my phone. It is a slightly tight fit to put the phone in the holding arm in portrait mode and it would never fit in landscape mode, but I can turn the holder 90 degrees to hold the phone sideways. I do wish the holding arm had a little more range because I’d love to also be able to put my switch lite in the arm occasionally and it will not fit, but that is a little nit and overall I’ve been very happy with my phone arm and am considering buying a second to have one at my desk and beside my bed.

A must if you need to digitize old books
I am in the process of photographing old books but needed something that would speed up the process.Holding the camera was the big problem for me. I did some research and found plenty of DIY ideas. I also found different things designed to scan books. Since this was a simple project I didn’t want to spend a lot of time building a book scanner from scratch. Nor did I want to spend a big chunk of coin for a dedicated book scanner.What works for me is snapping photos of my books, usually two pages at a time, then running the photos through the open source software Scan Tailor. You can find it via a google search. I create a simple PDF from the cleaned up, straightened, and flattened images afterwards. I then can shelve the books and not worry about excessive wear and tear since they are very old and fragile.I’d tried a gooseneck arm before but it was difficult to get it into the right position and make it stay. The gooseneck would have a certain amount of spring and would move slightly out of position. I’d spend more time than I wanted trying to get it into the right position and account for the spring-back. It also had the tendency to shake slightly if I accidentally thumped the desk.Hence this articulating arm.It is made of metal. It clamps a desk tightly with a simple screw. The only plastic parts are the knobs and the phone holder itself. I’m pretty confident the knobs are sturdy. The phone holder is good, but I always take care when I open and close it anyway. I like to take care of things and make them last.I’d get the arm set just right, hold the book open, then snap a photo. Without endorsing any particular camera app, I’ll just say I used an app that can be set for interval shots. I set the app to snap every five seconds, so I’d have time to turn the page and get the book positioned.While it is still a legnthy, tedious process to photograph books, having an articulating arm that stays exactly where I set it has removed an annoying obstacle. I wish I’d purchased this arm a long time ago.

Works great but I needed something with more bend since I will use it solely on my bed and I toss to one side back and forth to watch YouTube asmr videos.However if you want it for your desk I highly recommend this since you will be sitting upright and the angle can be adjusted farther or closer to you.Great for desk not so much bed. If that helps.

Perfect for a Virtual Classroom!
This has been a godsend to my virtual classroom, so far! Teaching preschoolers through the computer is so difficult, especially when they can’t see the books I’m reading all that well. This allows me to use my phone to display the books as I’m reading, so they can follow along and to work on math instruction where the students can see all that I’m doing with my hands and the materials for the lesson. It is large and sturdy enough to hold a Galaxy note 8 in an Otterbox case while still maintaining the height. The clamp on my work table is so much better than the weighted support for other versions of this, because it allows me to position my phone exactly where I need it without being in the camera shot. I only wish I’d found it sooner. Like other reviewers, I found the mount that actually holds the cell phone to be a bit flimsy with the galaxy phone. Those same issues aren’t a problem with my iPhone 11, which is not as wide. I’ll update my review if wear causes it to fail, but for now it is worth the 5 stars!

i LOVE IT! just 2 problems…
i absolutely LOVE it. i only have 2 problems. i had to use my old phone holder claw because the one with this one doesnt fit my phone with a case on. it does fit it (barely) with no case. pay attention to dimentions. they seem to be accurate in the description. my phone is at the very max of those measurements, and i knew that when i bought it. luckily the ball joint is universal.it also arrived defective. i only just installed it. it is too late to return it according to amazon. its really good quality except for this joint (in the video) not being pressed together like it should be, making it wobbly. the rest of it is FANTASTIC quality, and i absolutely love it. i will likely purchase more in the future.

The screw to lock the plate to the table is already loosened, hence I canât use. Otherwise it would have been a good holder to use.
